A teenager from New Hampshire is turning heads in the gaming world with a custom-built video game controller designed to be used by anyone, regardless of physical ability. The 14-year-old inventor, a resident of the Granite State, set out with a simple goal: making sure everyone gets a turn to play.
The adaptive controller was developed over several months in the teen's own workshop. Unlike standard controllers that require two hands and precise finger movements, this device features large, easy-to-press buttons and a joystick that can be operated with a palm, elbow, or even a foot. The young creator noticed that friends and family members with limited mobility often had to sit out during game nights. Rather than accept that as normal, they decided to engineer a solution.
The project started with basic electronics kits and a lot of trial and error. After multiple prototypes, the final version uses a reprogrammable circuit board that allows the button layout to be customized for different games. The controller connects wirelessly to standard consoles and PCs, making it compatible with popular titles like platformers and racing games.
Local educators and engineers have praised the invention for its practical design and the thought put into accessibility. The teen hopes that the controller can be shared with schools and community centers, allowing more people to join in on the fun. While the inventor has no plans to mass-produce the device just yet, the design plans are being made available online for free, so anyone with basic soldering skills can build their own. This young innovator proves that sometimes the best ideas come from a simple desire to include everyone.
