Ace Combat brand director Kazutoki Kono has shared new details about the upcoming Ace Combat 8, and the headline is size. According to Kono, the campaign for the next entry will have the largest volume of any game in the franchise's history. That includes the original Ace Combat 3, which was known for its sprawling branching storylines and multiple endings.
Kono made the comments during a recent interview, where he discussed the development philosophy behind the new title. He said the team is not just adding more missions for the sake of padding. Instead, they are focusing on creating a longer, more substantial narrative experience that gives players a reason to stay invested from start to finish. He noted that Ace Combat 3 was a high bar because of its ambitious structure, but the new game will go beyond that in terms of sheer content.
The producer also touched on how the team is balancing that larger scope with the series' signature arcade-style flight combat. He said the goal is to keep the pacing tight so that the extra missions do not feel repetitive or drawn out. While he did not give a specific mission count or an estimated playtime, he made it clear that players should expect a long journey when the game finally arrives.
Ace Combat 8 has not yet received a release date or a full gameplay reveal. The game was first teased a couple of years ago, and fans have been waiting for more concrete information since then. Kono's latest comments suggest that the wait will be worth it for those who value a deep single-player campaign. More details are expected to surface in the coming months as development continues.
