Thirty years after she first cracked open a forgotten crypt, Lara Croft is getting a proper do-over. Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics have locked in February 12, 2027, for the launch of "Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis," a ground-up remake of the 1996 original. The announcement came during Sony's latest State of Play broadcast, where a new trailer showed off the familiar opening levels rebuilt from scratch.
The trailer confirmed that the iconic T-rex fight is still very much part of the package, along with the series' signature blend of platforming, puzzle-solving, and acrobatic gunplay. This isn't a simple remaster or a texture pack upgrade. The developers are rebuilding the game from the engine up, aiming to modernize the controls and visuals while keeping the labyrinthine level design that made the original a classic.
The project marks a major bet for Amazon Games, which has been expanding its footprint in the industry after a rocky start. Crystal Dynamics, the studio that has shepherded the franchise for decades, is handling development directly. The 2027 release date gives the team a long runway, suggesting they are aiming for a polished, big-budget experience rather than a quick cash-in on nostalgia. More details are expected to trickle out over the next year.
