Bloober Team has made clear it has no intention of abandoning physical media anytime soon. The studio behind the "Silent Hill" remake wants to keep shipping boxed copies of its games for as long as possible, pointing to game collecting, emotional attachment, and the long term health of the medium as reasons to stick with discs and cartridges.
The company's stance stands out at a time when much of the industry is drifting toward digital only distribution. Major publishers have increasingly pushed downloads and subscription services, while store shelves have shrunk and some releases now arrive without a disc inside the box. Bloober Team's position signals that at least one prominent developer still sees value in a product players can hold, lend, resell, or simply place on a shelf.
Collecting remains a major factor. Physical editions give fans something tangible to seek out, and limited runs often become prized items within communities. Bloober Team also stressed the emotional side of the equation, noting that a boxed game can carry memories in a way a digital license rarely does. For many players, the act of opening a case and inserting a disc is part of the experience itself.
The studio further framed physical releases as a safeguard for the future of gaming. Discs and cartridges can survive storefront closures and account issues, giving players a way to keep playing even when online services change or disappear. That preservation argument has grown louder as digital storefronts have shut down and left some titles inaccessible.
Bloober Team did not offer a timeline for how long it will continue the practice, but its message was unambiguous. As long as there is demand and a viable path to production, the studio intends to keep physical versions of its games in players' hands.
