Players looking to complete their item collection in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will eventually face the tricky task of stealing the Tonberry King's crown. This special enemy appears during the "Crown of the King" side quest in the Corel region. The crown itself comes in two versions: the Pristine Crown and the Marred Crown. Getting the right one depends entirely on how you approach the fight.
To start, you need to find the Tonberry King. It spawns in the Gongaga Jungle area after you accept the quest from the moogle merchant. The fight is not just a simple beatdown. The Tonberry King has a unique mechanic where its crown can be damaged. If you attack the crown too much, it becomes "Marred," lowering its value and changing the reward.
The goal for the Pristine Crown is to steal it before the crown takes too much damage. Use Cloud's "Steal" materia or Yuffie's "Mug" ability early in the battle. Focus on crowd control for the smaller Tonberries that join the fight. Avoid using powerful area-of-effect attacks that might hit the king's head. Once you successfully steal the item, you can finish the fight normally.
If you accidentally damage the crown too much, the Marred Crown is still useful for completing the quest, but it yields a lesser reward. Many players find it easier to just steal the crown first and then unleash everything. The key is patience. Do not rush the fight. Let the Tonberry King use its "Jab" move, dodge it, and then steal. Once you have the crown in your inventory, the quest is essentially done.
