The push toward a disc-free PlayStation future feels inevitable at this point. Digital storefronts, subscription tiers, and cloud streaming have already reshaped how most of us buy and play. I get it. Convenience wins. But here is the problem: going all-digital should not mean handing over every shred of ownership to publishers who can yank a license whenever they feel like it.

Right now, when you buy a game digitally, you are not really buying it. You are renting a permission slip. Sony can revoke that permission, a publisher can delist a title, and your library can shrink overnight. That is not a hobby. That is a lease with fine print.

So what can we do about it? First, we need to demand real transfer rights. If I buy a digital game, I should be able to sell it, trade it, or pass it on like a physical disc. Second, we need offline play guarantees. No server check-ins, no mandatory phone-home DRM that bricks a single-player campaign when the company decides to shut down a service.

Gamers can push back by voting with their wallets. Support publishers who offer DRM-free options. Buy from stores that respect consumer rights. Talk about this openly on forums and social media. If enough of us make noise, Sony will have to listen.

A digital-only console can still respect the player. It just needs to treat us like owners, not tenants. The future of gaming should be bright, but only if we build it on trust, not on a license agreement that can be revoked with a server shutdown.
