Review — LEGO Batman: Legacy of The Dark Knight

The latest LEGO Batman game is finally here, and it brings a fresh take on the caped crusader's world. Don the cape and cowl in "Legacy of the Dark Knight," a title that mixes classic LEGO humor with a surprisingly dark story. The game follows Batman as he faces a new threat that pulls villains from across his entire history, forcing him to team up with unexpected allies.

Gameplay sticks to the familiar LEGO formula of smashing objects, building structures, and solving puzzles. However, the combat feels tighter than before. Batman can now chain attacks more smoothly, and the new gadget wheel makes switching between Batarangs, explosives, and the grapple gun much faster. The open world of Gotham City is also bigger than ever, split into distinct districts like the rain-soaked Industrial Zone and the neon-lit Diamond District.

The voice acting is a highlight. Troy Baker delivers a gruff, serious Batman, while the Joker is played with manic glee by a returning veteran. The story has genuine emotional weight, exploring Bruce Wayne's loneliness without getting too heavy. Kids will enjoy the slapstick, but adults will catch the nods to classic comics and films like "The Dark Knight Returns."

There are some issues. The camera can get stuck in tight indoor spaces, and the vehicle sections feel clunky compared to the on-foot action. The game also reuses some puzzle types from older LEGO titles, which might feel repetitive for long-time fans.

"Legacy of the Dark Knight" is a solid entry. It respects the source material while keeping the charm that makes LEGO games fun. If you own a console or PC, this is worth picking up for a weekend of crime-fighting.
