ASUS is rolling out a new set of improvements for the ROG Ally handheld, with a specific focus on making the device behave more like a traditional Xbox console when connected to a TV or monitor. The update targets the docked experience, addressing common complaints about performance and user interface quirks that have plagued the device since launch.
According to the company, the latest firmware and software tweaks aim to smooth out the transition between handheld and docked modes. Users can expect better resolution scaling, more consistent frame rates, and a simplified navigation system that mirrors the Xbox dashboard layout. The goal is to reduce the friction of plugging into a larger screen, so the device feels less like a PC and more like a dedicated gaming console.
In addition to the docked improvements, ASUS confirmed that Auto Super Resolution (ASR) is coming to Xbox Insiders for testing. This feature uses machine learning to upscale lower-resolution games in real time, similar to Nvidia's DLSS or AMD's FSR. While the feature has been available on some PC platforms, this marks its first integration into the Xbox ecosystem for a wider audience. The testing phase will allow Microsoft to gather feedback before a broader rollout.
The ROG Ally update is rolling out now to users, while the Xbox Insiders program will begin testing Auto Super Resolution in the coming weeks. No official release date for the public version of ASR has been announced.
