Players waiting for the release of the social deduction game Mimic can get an early look through a demo available during Steam Next Fest. The demo runs until October 26, giving players a limited window to try the game before it launches into Early Access next week.
Mimic places groups of players against each other in a battle of trust and deception. As in other games in the genre, participants must complete tasks while trying to identify the impostors among them. The twist is that one or more players can disguise themselves as objects in the environment, blending in with the scenery to avoid suspicion. This mechanic adds a new layer of paranoia, since the threat may be hiding in plain sight rather than moving suspiciously through the map.
The Steam Next Fest demo offers a chance to learn the core loop, test the disguise mechanics, and see how matches play out with other players. Progress from the demo will not carry over, but the experience should give a clear sense of what the full Early Access version will offer at launch.
Early Access is expected to include the core game modes along with room for updates based on player feedback. The developers have said they plan to expand content and refine balance during the Early Access period. For now, the demo remains the best way to see whether Mimic's mix of hidden roles and object disguises stands out in a crowded genre. Players have until October 26 to try it.
