Suns to install exterior video display ahead of All-Star game

The Phoenix Suns announced Tuesday that a new exterior video display is being installed at Mortgage Matchup Center, a project timed to be ready for the upcoming NBA All-Star Game. The screen will measure 226 feet wide and 41 feet tall, making it one of the largest outdoor LED boards attached to any NBA arena.

The display will wrap around a significant portion of the building's outer facade, facing the main street and pedestrian plaza. According to the team, the screen is designed to show game highlights, live stats, sponsor messages, and fan content during events. It will also be used for non-game days, including concerts and community gatherings.

The installation is part of a broader renovation effort at the arena, which has been underway for several months. The Suns said the new screen is meant to improve the fan experience both inside and outside the venue, especially for those who gather in the surrounding entertainment district before tip-off.

All-Star weekend is set to take place in Phoenix in February, and the team expects the display to be fully operational by then. The arena has hosted the All-Star Game once before, back in 2009, but this year's event will feature a new format for the game itself. The exterior video board is one of several upgrades the franchise hopes will leave a strong impression on visiting players, media, and fans.

No cost figures were released for the project, but the team said the screen uses energy-efficient LED technology. The Suns also noted that the display will be tested in the coming weeks, with a full schedule of content planned for the All-Star break.
