Video game spending in the United States saw a significant uptick in March, rising 12% year-over-year to reach $5.3 billion, up from $4.7 billion during the same period last year. The data, released by market research firm Circana, points to a robust month for the industry, fueled by a combination of highly anticipated new game releases and a dramatic surge in hardware sales.
Several new titles played a key role in driving the month's revenue growth. Among the standout performers were Crimson Desert, MLB The Show 26, and Pokémon Pokopia, each attracting strong consumer interest and contributing to the overall spending increase. These releases helped offset a quieter period for software sales in previous months.
Perhaps the most striking figure from the report was the performance of hardware spending. In March, consumers spent $500 million on gaming hardware, a staggering 69% increase compared to the $295.9 million spent in March of the previous year. This sharp rise suggests renewed consumer appetite for consoles and accessories, potentially driven by new system bundles, price promotions, or the ongoing appeal of current-generation platforms.
The combined strength of software and hardware spending underscores a healthy and expanding market. While the industry has faced fluctuations in recent years, the March data indicates that compelling new content and accessible hardware continue to drive engagement and revenue across the U.S. gaming landscape.
