Cheesman Park: The Game lets players fight zombies with Frisbees — all while learning Denver history

Cheesman Park: The Game lets players fight zombies with Frisbees — all while learning Denver history

A new interactive game is turning Denver's Cheesman Park into a zombie-fighting arena, and the weapon of choice is a Frisbee. Called "Cheesman Park: The Game," the experience blends physical activity, local history, and undead combat into a unique outdoor adventure.

Game creator Casey Cantor described the project as a personal tribute to the iconic park. "This is a love letter to Cheesman Park," Cantor said. The game challenges players to navigate the park's grounds while using flying discs to fend off zombie opponents. But the action is only half the story. As players move through the game, they encounter historical markers and narrative beats that reveal the park's real past, including its origins as a cemetery and its transformation into a beloved public space.

Cantor designed the game to be accessible to a wide audience, from casual park-goers to history buffs and disc golf enthusiasts. The gameplay encourages teamwork and quick thinking, requiring participants to solve puzzles and hit targets while avoiding the roaming undead. By weaving Denver's history directly into the mission objectives, the game offers a lesson that never feels like a lecture. Instead of a dry walking tour, players learn about the city's development and the park's controversial beginnings through active participation.

The project has already drawn interest from local history groups and outdoor recreation fans. For Cantor, the goal is simple: to get people outside, moving, and thinking about the stories beneath their feet. "You're not just running from zombies," Cantor added. "You're running through history."
