The long-awaited fan remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved now has a firm launch date. Developer Campaign Evolved announced that the project will be released on July 28, 2026. The team also released a new trailer showcasing updated visuals and gameplay from the opening levels.
Built using a modern engine, the remake aims to preserve the original 2001 campaign's level design and story while updating the graphics, audio, and controls. The trailer shows the iconic Pillar of Autumn crash-landing on the ringworld, followed by combat against the Covenant and the Flood. The visual overhaul is significant, with improved lighting, textures, and particle effects.
The project started as a small modding effort but grew into a full standalone experience. The developers have stated they are not using any assets from the original game or from 343 Industries' later remasters. Instead, they rebuilt everything from scratch, including the weapons, vehicles, and environments.
The July 28 release will include the full single-player campaign. The developers have not announced any plans for multiplayer. The game will be available as a free download on PC. System requirements and a final download size have not been shared yet.
