Two Western Pennsylvania amusement companies have been dissolved and ordered to forfeit $5 million after pleading guilty to felony charges connected to the distribution of illegal video gaming devices. The guilty pleas were entered in court on Wednesday.
Officials stated that the companies were responsible for the widespread distribution of hundreds of illicit machines across the region. These devices were unregulated, untaxed, and operated outside of the state's legal gaming framework, posing significant concerns for law enforcement and regulatory bodies.
The court's action, resulting in the corporate dissolution and substantial financial penalty, underscores a stringent crackdown on illegal gambling operations. Prosecutors emphasized that such devices undermine the legal gaming industry and can be associated with other criminal activities. The case serves as a stark warning to other entities that may be involved in similar unlawful distribution networks, highlighting the serious legal and financial consequences of operating outside of state gaming laws. The forfeited funds will be directed to the state treasury.
