Nintendo's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, has addressed industry concerns that rising memory costs could impact the pricing of the highly anticipated successor to the Switch console. While acknowledging the financial pressure, Furukawa stated that the company does not currently plan to adjust the planned price point for the "Switch 2" in response to these market fluctuations.
The statement came during a recent financial Q&A, where Furukawa noted that a variety of components go into the final cost of hardware. He emphasized that while increased memory expenses are a factor, they are not the sole determinant. For the moment, Nintendo is absorbing these costs to maintain its strategic pricing.
However, the company president added a note of caution, indicating this position is not indefinite. Should the trend of climbing memory costs continue over a prolonged period, Nintendo would be forced to re-evaluate its pricing strategy. A final decision, he clarified, would have to take a number of things into account, including overall market conditions and the value proposition offered by the new system.
The comments provide some reassurance to consumers fearing an immediate price hike due to component costs, while also leaving Nintendo flexibility to adapt if the economic landscape shifts significantly before the console's launch.
